Minutes for 22nd January 2019

Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Attendance: 36 members were in attendance.

Apologies: (8) Eric Fulton, Norman Gallagher, John Graham, Malcolm Hinds, Graham Kane, John McHenry, James Nesbitt, John O’Neill and John Tan.

The President gave a warm welcome to members and then introduced this mornings speaker Ken Wood, the topic of his talk being ”Photography and Folklore, Exploring the Causeway Coast.”

Ken Wood, originally from Boston in Lincolnshire, now lives in Portrush where his late wife Shirley was born. Ken has a real eye for photography and we were taken on a photographic extravaganza from Binevenagh to the Grey Man’s Path at Fair Head. The quality, composition and variety of Ken’s photographs were outstanding and he uses techniques that would fit well with a professional photographer. Our journey was interspersed with tales of folklore, be it the ghost of the Grey Lady, the Headless Horseman of the Black Glen or the nine sided “Keystone” at the Grand Causeway which if removed would lead to the disappearance of the entire Causeway. Ken is a skilled raconteur and will always be welcome at Coleraine Probus.

A further summary of this talk is available in the speaker’s record book and here on the club website.

A question and answer session followed the talk. A vote of thanks proposed by Ian Murray was passed to Ken by the President.
