Minutes for 14th November 2017

Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Attendance:
39 members were in attendance.

Apologies: John Dobson, Jim Foote, Norman Gallagher, Norman Maxwell, John McGlade, John McKegney, Ernest Preece and Mike Turner. (8)

The Vice President, Des Moore, welcomed members to the meeting. He then introduced this morning’s speaker, club member Graham Kane, the topic of his talk being “Driving Alec Guinness”

A question and answer session followed the talk. A summary of the talk is available in the speaker’s record book and here on the club website.

A vote of thanks, proposed by Jim Archer, was passed to Graham by the Vice President. The members showed their appreciation of a journey into the land of “A” list celebrities.

Minutes
: The minutes of the 7th November 2017 were read, approved by the members and signed by the Vice President.

Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.

Reports
Social: Joe Alcorn reminded members that the menu for the Christmas lunch on the 12th.Dec.is now available. Choices of menu should be returned as soon as possible to Des Johnston or Eric Fulton.

Welfare: Cecil Spotten said that Jim Foote hopes to be back at Probus in 2 to 3 weeks. John McGlade expects to be back next week after a successful knee operation. John Dobson is still in hospital but is not progressing well. Jim Hillis is awaiting heart surgery at the Royal Victoria Hospital and Norman Maxwell is recovering from a chill caught on Remembrance Sunday.

Treasurer: Nothing new to report.

The Ulster Gliding Club. Jay Nethercot has contacted Ken Parkes with a generous invitation to Club members to visit the Gliding Club to have a conducted tour and possibly a BBQ. A keen interest was shown and it was proposed that a trip be organised in the Spring of 2018.

2. Probus Club Ties. Members wishing to purchase a club tie should contact the Secretary.

3. Question Time. In reply to Cecil Leitch Ken Parkes confirmed that a microphone will be provided for questions to the speaker.

Next Speaker: On the 21st November the club welcomes Michele Knight-McQuillan, talking on the subject of being the “First Mayor of the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council”.
Closing Remarks: The Vice President thanked members for attending and looked forward to seeing them at the next meeting.
