Minutes for 22nd October 2019

Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
35 members were in attendance.

Apologies (8) Jim Archer, Noel Finlay, Stanley Forsythe, Jack Henderson, Jim Hillis, Danny Kennedy, Ken Parkes and Jim Torrens

The President, John McGlade gave a warm welcome to the members, including Hon. Member Norman Irwin and guest Billy O’Neill. He then introduced this morning's speaker, Philip Tweedie the topic of his talk being “The 148th Open Golf Championship”

An extensive question and answer session followed the talk. A vote of thanks proposed by Eric Fulton was passed to Philip by The President.

Weekly Business:
The minutes of the 15th October 2019 were, with the approval of the members, taken as read and signed by the President. .

Matters arising: None.

Correspondence: None.

Joe Alcorn confirmed that, on 29th October, the Club Quiz and Refreshments will be held in the Golf Club from 10:30 am. After the quiz a Club Lunch will take place in The Conservatory of the Lodge Hotel at 12:45 pm for a carvery lunch at 1:00 pm. An attendance sheet listing both functions, Quiz and Lunch, . is available at the signing in table. Please indicate the numbers coming to each function. Wives and guests are most welcome at both events.

Welfare. Cecil Spotten reported that Jim Gordon has settled well into the Nursing Home in Cookstown and Noel Finlay is awaiting a hip replacement. Neville Lamont last attended Probus on 12th March. Cecil has been unable to contact Neville by phone. If any member is in contact with Neville please inform Cecil.

Treasurer. Nigel Semple has nothing to report.

Any Other Business.
Next week a voluntary collection be taken at the close of the Quiz in support of the N.H, Ambulance Service.

2. Venue for the Christmas Lunch. A report will be given at the next meeting. The President will have further discussion with Royal Portrush re the menu.

Next Meeting: The next speaker’s meeting will be held on Tuesday 5th November 2019 when a Representative will give a talk on “The Simon Community.” This is the President’s chosen charity and a retiring collection will be taken for The Simon Community.

Closing Remarks. The President thanked members for attending and hoped to see everyone at the next meeting. He concluded the meeting with “A Prayer for the Middle Aged” - and a knowing smile crossed the faces of the Members.…
