Minutes for 14th March 2017

Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Attendance:
37 members were in attendance.

Apologies: Joe Alcorn, James Dinsmore, Leo Dolan, Eric Fulton, Norman Gallagher, John Graham, Hammy Houston, Des Johnston, Graham Kane, Danny Kennedy, Aubrey McElhinney, John McHenry, James Nesbitt, Ernest Preece, Nigel Semple and Gordon Ward. (16)

The President, Mike Turner, welcomed members to the meeting. He then introduced this morning’s speaker, Stephen Connolly, the topic of his talk being “Getting There.”

A question and answer session followed the presentation. A summary of this talk is available in the speaker’s record book and here on the club website.

A vote of thanks proposed by Bob McIvor was passed to Stephen by the President. The members showed their appreciation of an amusing and informative talk.

Weekly Business:
Minutes:
The minutes of 7th March 2017 were read, approved by the members and signed by the President.
Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.

Correspondence: A letter received last week from the Alzheimer’s Society publicising training sessions for informal care givers can still be viewed at the signing in table.

Reports:
Social: The President confirmed that the menu for the next club lunch is now available. Completed menu choices should be returned to the Social Secretary at the next Meeting on Tuesday 21st March.

Welfare: Cecil Spotten reported that Leslie Brennan is still in rehab and is making slow but steady progress.

Treasurer: Derick Woods (assistant treasurer) is available to receive outstanding annual Subscriptions at the end of the meeting.

Flowerfield Photographic Exhibition and master class in printmaking (by a club member!). Closing date Sat. 25th March 2017.

2. Ken Parkes said that the NW 200 races will not clash with the Probus All Ireland Rally but a practice race on Tuesday 9th May could have a bearing on the Club Quiz and Lunch.
Next meeting: Will be held on Tuesday 21st March 2017 when the speaker will be Dr. John Thompson on the subject of “The importance of Humanities today.”

The President thanked members for attending and looked forward to seeing them at the next meeting.
The meeting closed at 12:00 noon.
