Minutes for 3rd December 2019

Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
39 members were in attendance.

Apologies (6) Jim Archer, Noel Finlay, Hammy Houston, Graham Kane, James Nesbitt and Jerry Sayers.

The President, John McGlade, welcomed members to the meeting on this sunny winter morning. He then introduced this mornings Speaker, Jennifer Gault the topic of her presentation being “The Parish Nurse.”

An extensive question and answer session followed the presentation and a vote of thanks proposed by John McKegney was passed to Jennifer by the President.

Weekly Business:
The minutes of the 26th November 2019 were, with the approval of the members, taken as read and signed by the President. .

Matters arising - Christmas Lunch. Outstanding payments for the lunch should be made to the Treasurer today and menu choices given to the Secretary.

Correspondence: None.

Joe Alcorn reminded those members and guests going to the Christmas Lunch in Royal Portrush Golf Club to assemble in the first floor Dunluce Bar at.10:30am for tea or coffee and biscuits. This will be followed by a musical interlude at 11:15am. with Andrew and Heather Harrison. Lunch will follow in the Dining Room at 12:15pm or thereabouts.

Welfare. Cecil Spotten reported that John White is now resident in The Bohill Nursing Home.

Treasurer. Nigel Semple thanked all members who have paid for the Christmas Lunch. Any outstanding payments can be made after the meeting.

Any Other Business.
The Counterpoint Christmas Concert will be held in St. Patrick’s Church.Coleraine on Friday 6th December at 7:30 pm. For full details see the. Counterpoint leaflet on the signing in table.

2. Probus Magazines. Ken Parkes said that the winter edition has been taken up. The magazine is free except for a small donation to cover postage. He would encourage members to return back copies for redistribution to others. The take up of magazines is disappointing and distribution will have to be reviewed in the new year. Referring to his report at last weeks meeting on the Talking News Heritage Booklet, Ken has free copies for distribution to interested members.

Next Meeting: The next speaker’s meeting will be held on Tuesday 7th January 2020 when Helen Perry will give a talk on “The Museum Services; Highlights of the Local Collection.” .

Closing Remarks. The President thanked members for attending and hoped to see everyone at the next meeting.Before closing the meeting he entertained the members with a piece entitled “How do you know you are getting older?”
The meeting closed at 11:53 am.
