Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Attendance:
36 members were in attendance.

Apologies: (9) Joe Alcorn, Robin Blackford, Leo Dolan, Noel Finlay, Eric Fulton, John Graham, John McKegney, James Nesbit and Jerry Sayers,

Club President John McGlade welcomed club members to the meeting. A special welcome was given to John Spijkerman who has travelled all the way from Holland. The morning’s talk was given after the Weekly Business.

The minutes of 19th November 2019 were, with the approval of the members, taken as read and signed by the President.

Matters arising: Christmas Lunch and Musical Interlude on Tuesday 10th December. Members going to this lunch are asked to give the cost of the meal (£22:00 per person) to the Treasurer, Nigel Semple, today or at the latest on Tuesday 3rd December. This will ensure a smooth running on the day of the lunch. Menu choices should be given to the Secretary again by not later than 3rd December.

Social: An apology was received from Joe Alcorn..

Welfare: Cecil Spotten had nothing new to report this week.

Treasurer: Nigel Semple said he will receive the money for the Christmas Lunch after the meeting.

Speakers. If the members have any suggestions for suitable speakers please give names and details to Des Moore or John McKegney. Des was sure that members also would have interesting stories to tell.

2. The Talking Newspaper. Ken Parkes introduced members to a booklet developed by Talking News in conjunction with the Museum Service and the Local Council describing 22 historical sites on the North Coast. An audio track forms part of the production.

Topic for today: Portrush Heritage Trail.
The President then introduced this mornings speaker, John Moore. John is a member of Portrush Heritage Group established in 2014 by a group of local historians and has a current membership of 170.

A vote of thanks, proposed by John O.Neill was passed on to John Moore by the President. The members showed their appreciation.

Next Speakers Meeting: Will be on Tuesday 3rd December when the guest speaker will be Jennifer Gault the topic of her talk being “Health Issues.”

The President thanked everyone for attending, and hoped to see them at our next meeting. Before dismissing the members The President related the tale of “A Bad Day at the Office” involving Mick McGranaghan, a load of bricks, a barrel and a pulley.
